Oct 24, 2024
Edorardo Arbizzi
The third edition is ready to bring you up to speed on everything that matters in the world of shopping, with a dash of fun and lots of strategic insights. In the mood to hit the road? Buckle up - we're flying! ✈️ And maybe don't think too much about your ERP...that one never takes off! 😜
🌍 Global Look.
Starbucks is investing in its supply chain, but not in the way you think 🌱
Starbucks is increasing its commitment to coffee production, buying new farms in Costa Rica and Guatemala. But this is not a return to Henry Ford-style vertical integration: Starbucks is using the expansion to experiment with new responsiblefarming practices ☕
It's not simply a matter of production efficiency, but of making sure that every bean truly reflects a commitment to sustainability. It is an example of how large companies can use upstream integration to develop their supply chains, innovating where their suppliers normally do not. Might it be time for their other suppliers to wake up?"💡

Northvolt in trouble: battery reshoring remains a dream?🔋😬
Northvolt 's crisis is just one example of the challenges Europe is facing in its attempt to bring battery production back home and reduce dependence on China. It seemed like a European reshoring dream for the automotive industry but, let's face it, things are not going exactly as planned. After cutting 20 percent of its workforce and seeing crucial orders evaporate, Northvolt is now desperately looking for new funding to keep hope alive.
This crisis not only affects Northvolt, but also highlights the limits of European reshoring. Dependence on China is still firmly entrenched, and the Old Continent's green future looks increasingly complicated. In short, what is needed is a good turn of events.... and maybe a nice capacious power bank! 🔋😅

💻 Tech in Procurement.
AI revolutionizes the role of the CPO: a more strategic (and worthy!) future for Procurement 🤖📈
The role of the Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) is transforming at the drop of a hat - can we say it? Finally!!!!
And it's not us fuzzy Procurement gurus saying it, but McKinsey's super scholars (as well as former colleagues of some of the team buys). Thanks to the shock in supply chains, procurement has moved from the function that “finds savings” to a strategic function that ensures innovation and resilience of procurement and services.
And if geopolitical chaos makes us assists, AI makes us goals because it actually unlocks use cases whereby the procurement department can elevate itself from operations, delegating it, and focus on strategic and true value-added analysis (= EBITDA) 🤑
Ergo CPO, “time is now” to ride the wave - putting up the surfboard, the nice one, we #comprisuperpowers.
